How Does the Natural Spa work?
The Natural Spa contains natural organics that are magnetically attracted to contaminants and minerals in the water. This causes solid contaminants to clump together into larger particles that get swept up and caught in the filter where they belong. This natural flocking action helps keep the water nice and clear.
We've added powerful yet gentle cleansers that break down suntan oil, body lotions, and other unwanted contaminants, dissolving them harmlessly into the water, eliminating the cause of unsightly scum and foam.
And natural water softening minerals are in there, to reduce the surface tension of the water and help prevent scale from forming. Which means the water feels very soft and nice.
With no irritating chemicals!
The chemical balance of the water is unaffected so no pH altering chemicals are required.
But the real secret to the solution is our own special All Natural Enzymes, which accelerate these natural processes and keeps your spa water sparkling and clear without all those chemicals, without the odor, the irritation, the dry skin, the testing or the water balancing.
Why enzymes?
Enzymes increase the interaction between elements. They are added to detergents to help break down blood, fat, perspiration, and grass stains. Lipase and Cellulase enzymes soften the fatty exterior walls of microscopic cells, causing them to rupture more easily. Amylase and Protease enzymes help break down starches and proteins, and Oxidase and Hydrolase enzymes increase oxidation and promote the rapid degradation of many substances. Enzymes originally were extracted from both plants and animals, but can now be grown naturally in common soil.
In a nutshell the enzymes in the Natural Spa bond to the contaminants that enter the water. The enzymes are catalysts that accelerate the conversion of contaminants to carbon dioxide and water. This action occurs whether the contaminant is acidic or alkaline. The pH level will fluctuate somewhat depending on the amount of daily use, but should stabilize within normal range without using any chemicals.
Our enzymes are housed in a coconut oil base, which contributes to the effectiveness of the solution. As the solution breaks down during use, the coconut oil is released and gradually coats the filter cartridge, which improves filtration and makes cleaning the filter much easier. The coconut oil also helps soften your skin!
The result is much healthier water, fresh, clean and clear without fear of exposure to any harsh chemicals or their negative side effects.
How Do I Use Natural Spa?

For new spas:
NOTE: New spas are "wet tested" at the factory to make sure that everything works correctly, and to guarantee no leaks. Then they are drained and wrapped in protective plastic. Eventually they are shipped to the dealer or new owner. Because these spas have been wet, algae and mold may begin to grow inside the plumbing and filter in the dark, moist environment. The same is true for the seldom-used garden hose that you will be using to fill this new spa with. The first time you fill your new spa, or anytime the spa has been drained and left empty for more than three weeks health officials recommend flushing the spa thoroughly with an 80ppm chlorine solution, or soaking with a 20ppm solution for nine hours or longer. In addition, you should soak the filter for 90 minutes or longer in a solution of 1 part household bleach to 7 parts water.
When you get a new spa, you will want to use it a lot, and of course you want the water to stay crystal clear. But new spas may have manufacturing residues of silicon, Teflon, waxes and other chemicals that slowly wash out and cause cloudy water for many months. Chlorine will bleach these residues, keeping the water clear during this time. And so, for new spa owners we suggest the use of dichlor, (not bromine), per the chlorine manufacturer's recommendations for the first 30 days. Then Crystal Clean and drain.
If you do not want to soak in highly chlorinated water, then fill your spa and add Clarity for Spas according to label instructions. You may notice a slight haze for awhile as the manufacturing residues wash off into the water. We recommend you 'shock' occasionally with non-chlorine shock, hydrogen peroxide, or chlorine, then Crystal Clean after four to six weeks of use.
It's your choice. Complete instructions are in our starter kits.

IF YOU NOW USE BIGUANIDE (BaquaSpaâ ).
Drain your spa and refill with fresh water to eliminate the Biguanide in the water. Add San Diego Spa Chemicals to the spa and soak the filter in a concentrated solution of Crystal Clean. Add Clarity for Spas to the fresh water. You may need to 'shock' the water with non-chlorine shock, or hydrogen peroxide in the next few weeks to maintain clarity.
IF YOU NOW USE CHLORINE OR BROMINE.
Take out the filter and toss the bromine floater, if used. Rinse and replace your filter so that the water treated with Crystal Clean will clean it thoroughly. Turn on all the jets and slowly add Crystal Clean to the skimmer area of your spa. The longer you circulate the water, the better the cleaning job. The contaminants that are in your spa will cause the water to get cloudy and may cause foam and scum to rise to the surface. Scoop away this foam while purging, and dispose of it. Run your spa for 3 days to thoroughly clean. Drain within 7 days or the scale will start to reattach to your spa walls.
Once your spa is clean, fill with fresh water and shock the new water with 15ppm of chlorine. This should remove any residual chloramines, tannins or algae.
You may use your spa as soon as it is hot enough, though the chlorine level will still be quite high.
If your water is high in iron, copper, calcium or other scale or stain causing metals: Add 1 to 2 ounces of Crystal Clean to every 100 gallons of water on the third day, to sequester these metals and prevent any problems with staining or scaling.
Heat the water to at least 80° F, and wait until the chlorine level is below 2ppm before adding the Natural Spa. You will notice that the Natural Spa is a thick liquid, and does not immediately dissolve into the water. Take out the filter and circulate with the air off for 15 minutes or more to mix the Natural Spa into the water, but don't put the filter back in for 4 hours. This gives the Natural Spa time to fully dissolve into the new water, rather than getting stuck in the filter.
One bottle of Natural Spa will keep your water looking and feeling great for one to two months with average use. If you use your spa 3 to 5 days a week for twenty minutes each time, we consider that average use. With more use by more people or for longer times you will have to add a bottle more often. If you use your spa daily, you will add a bottle every 4 to 5 weeks. If you don't use your spa for long periods of time, you may find that the water stays nice and clear for 3 to 4 months. When you haven’t used your spa for a long time, you need to add a new bottle of Natural Spa before use to recondition the water.
The final consideration is the size of your spa. One bottle of Natural Spa will treat up to 500 gallons, so larger spas will need to start with two bottles or more. Large swim spas will need a bottle of Natural Spa added every one to two months even when not used a lot. Smaller spas (under 200 gal.) can be a bit more difficult to maintain, especially under heavy use. Best results come from adding one full bottle after filling with fresh water, then adding another ½ bottle every three to four weeks, and depending upon use. Also, small spas should be drained more often. And remember to remove (and clean) the filter whenever you are adding a bottle.
No testing is required, as the Natural Spa has no effect on pH or alkalinity.
And there is no need to drain the water as long as it stays clear and fresh, which can be up to a year. We do recommend that you drain every 6 months, (just because), and use Crystal Clean just before you drain, to keep your spa as clean as can be. A clean spa uses less energy to heat the water, runs smoother and lasts longer.
ENJOY!

NORMAL MAINTENANCE
Circulate twice daily on high, with lots of air induction for 15 minutes to an hour. Longer running times reduce the product life.
Add 1 full bottle of Clarity for Spas EVERY TWO MONTHS:
Clean filter with high-pressure nozzle when adding a bottle of Natural Spa. If you clean the filter too often you are washing away the Natural Spa and leaving your spa water unconditioned. Once a year, or as needed soak the filter(s) in a bucket of water with 1/2oz Crystal Clean per gallon of water or use other filter cleaner.
Check pH and balance if necessary. Your pH can be between 6.8 and 8.4. Most city water has had the pH and alkalinity properly balanced before distribution. The Natural Spa can tolerate a much greater pH range and still maintain water quality. A higher pH is healthier for your skin. You can raise the pH by adding baking soda to your spa, 1 ounce at a time. To lower the pH use Spa Down, white vinegar or pool acid. DO NOT add too much, and dilute the strong acids before adding to your spa - you want to lower the pH slowly. Wait at least 4 hours after adding any chemical before testing to see what effect it has had on the water.
Spas of 200 gallons or less should add one full bottle of Natural Spa to fresh water, then replenish with ½ bottle every 3 to four weeks, depending on use.
EVERY 6 MONTHS:
Add Crystal Clean 3 days before draining to keep the spa nice and clean. Soak filter in bucket of water with ½ oz Crystal Clean per gallon of water. With Natural Spa there is no build-up of toxic, corrosive chemicals in your water to worry about, so water changes are needed much less often than the one to four months required with other systems.
THINGS TO KNOW
Alkalinity: Alkalinity can be anywhere between 40 and 280. Raise alkalinity with baking soda or Alkalinity Increaser, lower with Muriatic Acid or Easy Acid, available at a pool supply.
Metal Gon: Normally not needed. If your local water is very high in dissolved metals, add 1 to 3 ounces of Crystal Clean to every 100 gallons of new water to sequester these metals and prevent any problems with staining or scaling.
Defender: Because you’re not adding tablets or granules to your water, you normally will not need this product. If sandy crystals begin to form, use Crystal Clean to cure the problem, according to our instructions. Then use Defender when you fill with new water.
Foam: Do not use 'Foam Down' type products. Lingering clumps of foam mean it's time to add another bottle of Natural Spa. If the foam is excessive, scoop it off and dispose of it to eliminate the cause of the foam. If it doesn't go away in a day or two, then Crystal Clean and drain the spa.
Clarifiers: Do not use a clarifier, as the Natural Spa is a clarifier itself. Other clarifiers may cause foam and some may even bond with the Natural Spa and cause it to be filtered out of your water.
Ozone, non-chlorine shock and hydrogen peroxide: You should use these oxidizers under heavy use conditions. These are excellent products that help clear the water, though constant shocking will shorten the effective life of the Natural Spa.
ONE BOTTLE LASTS TWO MONTHS, or about 20 hours of use, counting each week that has gone by since adding your last bottle as 1 hour of use. With frequent use you will need to add the Natural Spa more often. Surface scum or foam are indicators that it's time to add a new bottle.

1. The effects of the Natural Spa on water.
pH - The pH of water is determined mostly by contaminants that enter the water. For example: soap residues, dead skin cells, fertilizers, human waste and urine, etc. These contaminants will cause the water pH to rise and (or) drop sharply. Until now, the only method to resume a normal or balanced pH would have been to add chemicals to the water to reverse the problematic pH symptom. Although adding a chemical will reverse the pH and provide you with a normal reading using standard pH testing procedures, the contaminant that caused the pH problem remains in the water, in addition to the newly added chemical used to reverse the problem.
Natural Spa enzymes bond to the contaminants that enter the water. The enzymes are catalysts that accelerate the conversion of contaminants to carbon dioxide and water. This action occurs whether the contaminant is acidic or alkaline. The pH level will fluctuate somewhat between approximately 7.0 and 8.4 depending on the amount of daily contamination, but should stabilize within normal range without using any chemicals. Some water is particularly ‘hard’, and may have a high pH, or may be very "soft", with a low alkalinity. Check pH prior to treatment, and adjust as necessary.
Color, Clarity and Odor - Natural Spa enzymes help the spa to break down organic contaminants in the water. These organic contaminants can promote bacteria blooms and turbidity, causing unpleasant water conditions. Inorganic contaminants that disturb water clarity are held in suspension, or flocked together and filtered out. The Natural Spa is not a bleach, so water high in minerals may exhibit a slight color. Faint odors may be generated as contaminants are broken down and "gas off". This will clear in a short time.
Bacteria - Spa water treated according to our recommendations stays safe, clean and healthy. Our customers spas are periodically chosen at random and tested for E. Coli, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus Aureus, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Legionella Pneumophilia, yeast, fungi, molds, and mildews. Coliform tests are routinely performed on heavily-used spa water. Water temperature is maintained at approximately 100 F° and the spa is covered during non-use periods. The Coliform test searches for colon bacillus and other disease generating bacteria stemming from fecal and urine contamination.
Minerals - The Natural Spa helps dissolved minerals to remain in suspension without using additional sequestering agents. The solution acts as a flocking agent and clarifier by helping clump together dirt and other solid contaminants to be captured by the filter.
2. Usage.
Clarity’s Natural Spa can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional spa chemicals. Used alone, one 16 ounce bottle per 500 gallons of spa water will maintain safe and pleasant conditions for about 20 hours of bather use. In most cases the other chemicals are no longer needed. Water temperature should be kept above 80° F with minimum circulation of twice a week, though daily circulation is preferred.
3. Does this product effectively kill or prevent algae, phytoplankton or diatoms in the water?
Algae - The Natural Spa is not an algaecide. Spas with covers and using the Natural Spa according to instructions, without the regular addition of toxic chemicals, have shown no algae growth in water with temperatures above 80º F and where regular circulation and filtration are present. Spas without covers will normally have algae growth on the walls and in the water. Algaecides are required in these cases, and are compatible with our formula.
Phytoplankton - Phytoplankton floats on pond surfaces. There have been no studies regarding the effect on phytoplankton. Natural Spa effectively breaks the surface tension of the water, so it is highly unlikely that phytoplankton could survive on the surface of the water, (mosquitoes cannot land on treated water).
Diatoms - Diatoms are algae containing siliceous cell walls. No studies have been conducted on diatoms specifically but it would be highly improbable for them to reproduce.
Because the Natural Spa improves the ability of a spa to dissolve organic particles these small particles are prevented from forming larger molecular structures known as algae, phytoplankton and diatoms.
4. Compatibility.
With sanitizers - Natural Spa is compatible with chlorine, bromine, ozone, ionization, hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet, at recommended use rates for spas. It is not compatible with biguanides.
With filtration - The Natural Spa is compatible with standard cartridge filters. Filtration is enhanced due to the flocking properties of the solution. Filtration media finer than 20 micron mesh is not recommended.
With other chemicals - The Natural Spa is compatible with many other chemicals, including those normally associated with pool and spa maintenance. Acids and oxidizers will hasten the degradation of the enzyme formula, shortening its effective life. The more aggressive the chemical, the more rapid the breakdown. Clarifiers should not be used with the Natural Spa, as the formula acts as a clarifier by itself. Additionally, some clarifiers will bond to the enzyme formula and cause it to solidify and be filtered out of the water.
5. Contents and Properties.
Contents - Clarity’s Natural Spa treatment is made from enzymes, minerals and plant extracts, which provide longevity to the natural enzyme formula. The enzymes used are proprietary and are not available for review.
Properties - The enzyme formula in the Natural Spa treatment has several remarkable properties. It is magnetically charged, which causes the enzymes to quickly attach to contaminants. Once attached, the enzymes increase the molecular activity in the spa, causing the contaminants to biodegrade into simpler compounds, such as carbon dioxide and water. They simply disappear, and the water remains fresh and clear.
6. Registration Requirements.
The Natural Spa is not a sanitizer, biocide, or pesticide. The EPA will only register a product as a sanitizer, biocide or pesticide if it contains an "active ingredient" that is toxic or deadly to animals and/or plants.
The Natural Spa does not contain any "active ingredient" listed by the EPA, OSHA, or the NSF. Therefore the product can not be registered as a pesticide, algaecide, or biocide. The enzyme formula is 100% safe, non-toxic, and contains all natural ingredients. The formula works in synergy with the physical elements in the spa to improve efficiency, break down organic contaminants, and help produce a healthier, more desirable environment, i.e. free of chemical irritants, with softer, clearer, more comfortable water.
The Natural Spa can not and does not claim to "reduce, inhibit, mitigate, destroy or abate any pests", (plants, animals or bacteria) "either by itself or in combination with any other substance" (the EPA definition of a pesticide). The EPA does not allow any product not registered as a pesticide to make this claim, under penalty of civil prosecution.
